White wines are popular because of its refreshing attributes, but one thing which everyone should know that White Wine is not actually white. The color of white wine can vary from yellow, golden, or pale to straw like color. The color of white wine is derived from its parent grape variety. White wines are made from grape skins of green, gold or yellowish colored grapes and the grape juices or from just the juices of select red grapes varieties (like in some variety of Champaign).

White wine is a versatile drink to be used on diverse set of events by different people. They love to drink white wine at such occasions. Its refreshing nature makes it an ideal welcome drink in party celebrations. White wine is an appetizer in itself, and it can be consumed with lighter meals, think lunch, smaller dinners, or it can be as a perfect appetizer too. Although the old sayings of white wine with white meat is always true. But, its truth that white wines are usually more refreshing, lighter in both style and taste if compared with the majority of their red wine counterparts. White wines are ideal for any spring or summer celebrations.

There are several types of White wines; they are categorized according to their color, parent grape variety, the country of origin or the making process. Major types of white wines are Chardonnays, Chenin Blanc, Gewurtztraminer, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Gris, Riesling Wines, and Sauvignon Blanc. White wine comes in different flavors. The flavor of a white wine can vary from Citrus, Apple, Pear, Grapefruit, Lemon, Lime, Pineapple, Melon, Butter, Honey, Floral, Herb and Earthy.

White Wine Serving Guidelines

White wine should be served in a different glass than red wine, narrower glasses are ideal for serving white wine because it allows better concentration of aroma. The ideal temperature for serving white wine is from 45 to 50 OF. It's also important to take care of the cuisines to be served with white wines, generally seafood, poultry dishes, pork, or recipes with heavy cream base are best suited to white wine.
